Web Log – July 2024 – Statistics for 2023

Every year, the two main Plastic Surgical Societies poll their membership on their case types and numbers.  The results are often interesting, and sometimes even helpful.  Here are a few…

Top 5 cosmetic procedures are liposuction, breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, mastopexy, and blepharoplasty.

They talk about the “Ballet Body Beautiful” trend.   I’m afraid it’s the first I have heard of it, but it avoids exaggerated features and seeks harmonious outline.  Sound like what I have been doing all along.

Age 19 and under patients most commonly get otoplasty or gynecomastia surgery.

Age 20-29 patients get breast reductions, labiaplasty, and various facial procedures including rhinoplasty, otoplasty, chin and cheek augmentation.

Age 30-39 patients get breast reductions and various abdominoplasty or body lift procedures.  Many get breast augmentation.  Notably, the younger generations are getting fewer.

Age 40-54 patients get the most of all types of procedures.

Age 55-69 patients get fewer procedures across the board, but more facial rejuvenation like facelifts, forehead lifts, and eyelid lifts.  Breast implant removals are also common.

Age 70+ patients do not get many procedures except a moderate number of the facial rejuvenation surgeries.  At this age, facial surgeries are tolerated better than body and breast.
