BRA Day – that is Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day – is on October 15th. A significant portion of my practice is devoted to post mastectomy breast reconstruction, but many patients considering treatment choices are not aware of their options. Many of my general surgery colleagues send their patients for a pre mastectomy consult to present options and to plan for the best result. This has been great for patients and I hope it will continue. My experience is not alone and patient education bills have been introduced in congress.
