Web Log – November 2016 – Male Plastic Surgery

Male Plastic Surgery is becoming more common and represent 10% of patients versus 90% women.  Men don’t hang around the locker room talking about how their Plastic Surgeon improved their love handles – at least not in Boise.  Nonetheless, men want to look better too and that is not as taboo as it once was considered.  More than their female counterparts, however, men are more private and an operated upon look is the worst possible outcome.  The top five most common procedures in descending order are liposuction, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), gynecomastia (male breast reduction), and facelift. Gynecomastia has increased 173% since 1997 (when the American Society of Plastic Surgeons began keeping statistics) and an impressive 26% since last year.  I have definitely seen more men recently, particularly with gynecomastia.  So, maybe male surgery will grow even more in the coming year.  Don’t worry, men.  You are not alone and we can keep a secret.
