Case of the Month – Submental Liposuction

The patient is a young woman who is dissatisfied with her submental (under the chin / neck) fullness.  She has good skin elasticity with underlying moderate fat pockets and mild platysma laxity (sheet like muscle in the neck which contributes to neck shape).  We elected to do submental fat removal with traditional liposuction.  To avoid open surgery, the platysma was not tightened (neck lift), but she may need this as she ages.  Recovery was 1-2 weeks.  Skin tightening was assisted with Refirme infrared and radiofrequency treatments at 1-3 months later.
