Case of the Month – September – Latissimus Flap Breast Reconstruction

The patient is a woman who required bilateral mastectomies for breast cancer treatment with radiation therapy on the left.  She then had bilateral latissimus flaps with expanders placed.  Note how the right non radiated side expanded easier than the left radiated side.  At the time of implant exchange and nipple areolar reconstruction, the right side soft tissue was tightened and the left tight scar capsule around the expander was released.
