Case of the Month – May 2012 – Latissimus and Radiation

The patient had bilateral mastectomy with radiation therapy on the right.  Bilateral latissimus flaps were added to expanders with the understanding that the right would be tighter secondary to radiation effects versus the left.  At the time of expander exchange for implants, the right side had a capsulectomy (removal of scar tissue around the expander) while the left tissue envelope was tightened to create improved symmetry.
