Case of the Month – August 2019 – Abdominoplasty

The cases of the month illustrate the difference between mini and full abdominoplasty.

The first patient is a woman in her mid 40’s who had predominantly lower abdomen laxity and tissue excess. She had mini abdominoplasty where the umbilicus was released – or floated – from behind. Thus, there is no scar around the umbilicus. This approach only works if there is little excess skin above the umbilicus. The patient also had flank liposuction.

The second patient is a woman in her mid 50’s who has more excess skin and is a better candidate for a full abdominoplasty. This requires a scar around the umbilicus, but allows greater tightening of skin above the umbilicus.
