BOTOX® Cosmetic

When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these contractions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These lines can make you look older, sad, angry or tired. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections paralyze the muscles which create the wrinkles. Weakening these key muscles can not only prevent you from deepening these lines during natural facial movements, they can also ease these marks of aging, leaving you looking younger and refreshed.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is appropriately used in patients who are beginning to show signs of aging secondary to forehead furrows, creases between the eyes, and crow's feet. Properly selected patients have excellent results and often return for further treatments. BOTOX® Cosmetic, however, is not a cure-all for facial aging. Patients with well established furrows or skin drooping will not be significantly helped by BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and would be better served by more aggressive procedures. As a fully trained Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Wigod is able to appropriately counsel you against inappropriate treatments and offer more effective alternatives.

The Procedure

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are performed in the office and without anesthesia as they cause little pain. Only a small sting is felt when the injections are made. The effects are usually apparent in 3 to 7 days and last 2 to 4 months. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated. Research has suggested, however, that long term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment's effect.

Post-Operative Information

After the procedure, patients may experience slight bruising and swelling around the injections which quickly fade. You may return to normal activity immediately. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles or in rare cases eyelid drooping. BOTOX® Cosmetic effects are time limited so any problem should be temporary.

Juvéderm™ Injectable Gel

Touted as the "next generation" of facial fillers, Juvéderm™ injectable gels gently smooth wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose and restore a youthful volume to the face. Made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to provide volume and support to the skin, Juvéderm™ is especially effective on smile lines and "parentheses" (nasolabial folds) that run from the bottom of the nose to the sides of the mouth. Treatment takes only 15 minutes with immediate results and no downtime. Results typically last about 6-9 months.

Fat Injection

Fat injection reduces deep creases and hollows while plumping up areas that have lost volume as a result of surgery, injury, aging or another cause. Many have also observed improved skin condition overlying injected areas. Since transplanted fat comes from the patient’s own body, it does not risk of allergic reaction or rejection. Fat may be injected similarly to temporary fillers, but has the potential to be permanent and requires a longer recovery. Reinjection may be required for optimal results. Fat injection may performed alone under local anesthesia or in addition to other procedures. Fat injection should only be performed by experienced  surgeons who understand and can explain to you the risks, benefits, and alternatives.

Laser Rejuvenation

The natural consequences of aging on our skin include sun damage, freckles, age spots, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and redness caused by broken capillaries. Photorejuvenation ( photo facial ) reduces these signs of aging using pulses of light. Treatments can also improve the appearance of birthmarks and uneven pigmentation as well as stimulate the production of collagen. There is little recovery time and low risk of complications. Multiple sessions of about 20 minutes each are performed every few weeks until the desired result has been achieved. SyneronFoto Facial ™ , offered by Dr. Wigod, evens skin tone by targeting red and brown pigment with Bi-Polar Radio Frequency and Light energies of elōs™.

Laser Hair Removal

Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, women and men who are tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair on the face, back, legs or other body areas may welcome laser hair removal with relief.

With Syneron™, powered by elōs ™, true laser light and radiofrequency energy heats and destroys hair follicles to permanently reduce unwanted hair. The 810 Diode Laser optimally treats all hair and skin types while added radiofrequency provides safety and minimizes discomfort. Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light.

Multiple treatments are required for the most effective hair reduction. Treatments are needle and wax free and do not require local anesthesia. Patients feel minimal to moderate discomfort, so topical anesthetics may be helpful for some. It is possible that some hair will grow back, though it is usually finer and lighter than what was originally removed. There may also be some redness and swelling following the procedure.
