Full, proportioned lips are a sign of youth and attractiveness. Patients may have thin lips secondary to heredity or to volume loss with aging. Adding fillers to the lips will replace the missing volume and minimize the wrinkling that occurs around the mouth with aging. There are many fillers available which may accomplish that goal. There are some materials available which do not completely disappear over time and which do not cause allergic reactions. During a consultation, Dr. Wigod will help you to choose which one would be best for you.

On occasion, patients have lips that are too full or are asymmetric. Dr. Wigod can also perform surgery to reduce or balance the lips appropriately.

The Procedure

Most fillers can be injected with a needle and leave no entry scar. This can be performed in an office setting with nerve block anesthesia to maximize comfort and minimize cost.

Post-Operative Information

Injecting the lips causes significant swelling which may take 1-2 weeks to resolve. Keeping your head elevated and applying ice periodically can help your symptoms. Your lips will start to feel normal in a few weeks after you have incorporated the changes into your new body image. Problems with soft tissue augmentation also include, but are not limited to asymmetry, contour irregularities, and nodules.
