Web Log - March 2009 - Electronic Medical Record
Monday, March 2nd, 2009The new Presidential Administration has touted the advantages of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Well, we are way ahead of the curve as we decided to go paperless back in October. Somehow, I don’t think the government will be paying for it. We have been working diligently to get ready for our “go live” date in mid March.
With our paperless EMR, new patients will fill out their information on-line. This may be done at home or in the office. I and the staff will then produce our documents on tablet computers. All incoming mail and faxes will be turned into electronic format. Extensive back-up systems are in place, including a paper copy of each patient pre-op consult, photo, and operative note.
We think that this new system will ultimately improve office efficiency and patient service. In the short term, however, I have no doubt that there will be a number of problems. Please be patient with us.
